Capsicum plaster is only effective when used properly. Here are some safety tips:
01. Don't Use on Broken Skin
Avoid applying to irritated, damaged, or freshly injured skin which can absorb too much capsaicin leading to burns.
02. Watch Application Time
Limit continuous use to 8 hours max to avoid skin irritation. Allow 12 hours between applications on the same spot.
03. Stay Hydrated
Drink extra fluids while using to prevent dehydration which can worsen side effects like flushing.
04. Check Medication Interactions
Capsaicin can interact with blood thinners, diabetes drugs, and hypertension medications. Consult your doctor first.
05. Avoid Combining Heat
Don't apply heating pads or take hot baths/showers when wearing the plaster as this drives more capsaicin into the skin.
06. Prevent Sweating
Excessive perspiration can loosen adhesion. Avoid vigorous exercise and hot humid environments.
07. Stop at the First Sign of Irritation
Immediately remove the plaster if you experience excessive stinging, itching, redness or swelling.
By following precautions and directions, capsicum plaster can be used safely for convenient pain relief when you need it. Monitor your skin's response closely.
